Preseason injuries:
The end of the Christmas break usually means preseason training for Winter sports has started. While the break from training and game days is great for our bodies; the return to training is the most common time for injuries to our lower limbs to occur. Common preseason injuries are; the repetitive overloading of limbs, strains and sprains and in some cases fractures.
Common contributory factors for these strains are:
- inadequate warm up
- insufficient joint range of motions
- muscle tightness
- muscle imbalance
- poor technique
- previous injury
It is important to increase your training gradually, include rest days into your training program, include a warm up and stretching routine before and after training and most importantly if your feel a niggle make yourself an appointment sooner rather than later. The podiatrists at The Foot Centre are all trained in assessing and treating sporting injuries and have all had first hand experience of sporting injuries too!
